I’ve deliberately kept photos of the Cultural Squatters space under wraps until we were closer to opening, to fashion some sense of intrigue - whether it worked or not I dunno, but as we start our week long painting party in a few days, I thought now was a good time to show you the ‘before’ so you can see what we are working with.
The vision is a massive part of what drives me. Knowing that with support from friends, family and volunteers (who no doubt will fast become friends), I can realise my vision for the physical space which CS occupies, is a huge incentive for me to crack on and do my absolute best. As already said here, my own ego isn’t wrapped up in this amazing project but the support of people I care for is, and that is more important than any personal perceptions of my Self. I really do not want to let down my family and my amazingly diverse community.

I have been a bit quiet on here last few days for a couple of reasons — being flat out working with many fantastic volunteer agencies to gather my volunteer crew, and I kinda broke my arm and bust a load of ligaments, too. Really not sure how (it happens!! I’m thinking gig, later on to a club, few too many beers and a pretty big falling out with a bouncer for not letting me take some water outside the club to a thirsty homeless woman). I have been walking around in pain for 2 weeks, finally got badgered into getting my wreck of a shoulder X-rayed and boom - turns out I have been walking around with a 4 inch fracture of the humerus and subluxation of the clavicle (or something).
NOT that any of that is stopping me but the pain meds I have been given have knocked me sick. Did I mention the painting party for CS starts in a few days? Oh joy! Best learn how to paint with my left arm. My pig-headed ‘I’m ok’ crack on attitude, and not stopping or seeking some real medical advice sooner, means I have kinda messed myself up a bit. Need to be well for training and when we open in a few weeks!! (Because fractures and ligament damage can heal in 3 weeks 🙄😂)
