Painting Party - Day 1.

‘You are like a happy puppy who I keep having to bring to heel’ - Fee to me, today. I spent most the day making spontaneous, seemingly involuntary squeals of delight and clapping the Seal of Approval, like some wayward sea mammal, jacked up purely on life and all its crazy potential.

Today we started painting Cultural Squatters and putting our own stamp on it. All paint used was graciously donated either by friends and family, or local businesses. Mike worked flat out with support from two of my friends who incredibly generously gave up their bank holiday Monday to lug stuff around and paint our walls.  David Richards and Sian Croft - you absolute stars. Thank you times infinity.

Despite having a pretty badly broken arm and some gnarly ligament damage (don’t ask, I don’t even know myself, I just know I pushed on for nearly three weeks in pretty bad pain, with what, it transpires, is a fairly mangled arm and shoulder), I managed to paint, a bit, too. Mostly I squealed  and clapped and played music and made ace, bad hand drawn signs for our windows (broke my right arm - I am very much right handed) . We had fresh sarnies and munchies brought in to us (thanks, Mum!) and made friends with a local property developer who gifted us, amongst other things, loads of tables, glassware and even a couple of unused toilets which I am making into planters for outside the cafe front (trust me, it’ll work...). Oh and a fridge for our doggy food. Did I say we are having a dog menu, too?

Mike making first paint contact. Whoop.

We cracked on and successfully slapped up the first coat of paint everywhere we needed it. I did sort loads of stuff out with Fee and Sian, in between yelps and claps, and we now have a pile of stuff we can’t use ready for a skip. If any local skip merchants wanna give us free use of a skip for a morning, that’d be really cool and a very kind gesture. Can load a skip up in twenty minutes. Great PR for you and truly practicing #bekind business ethos. As far as throwing stuff away goes - if we can’t use it, be sure and believe me that is is skip worthy rubbish. Wasters, we are not.

So yeh. Day 2 bright and early sees me at the Fracture Clinic for a while, and so far we have no certain volunteers for the day. Anyone who can help, please come along - an hour of your time means so much to us, especially as Fee is disabled and I am currently massively restricted in what I can do for a while. We still have much to do. We have all the kit, but do wrap up in old joggers (or something. I possess not a single pair, so today sported some rather fabulous leopard print hareem pants and a white faux fur - because even a painting party requires a touch of Me-ness), as it could get messy, and it’s cray cold upstairs, at the moment.
